After last year’s Così fan tutte, theatre director Frédéric Roels takes on a new production of Norma with accentus choir and the Opéra de Rouen Normandie. He aims to bring out the full mythical dimension of Italian Romantic bel canto at its apogee, revealing the heroine’s internal strife. The title role is played here by a mezzo and that of Adalgisa by a soprano, a return to the original intention of Bellini and his librettist Romani.
