By putting in music this story raised to the rank of tragedy, Leoš Janáček composes in 1904 a sublime score, which finally brings him the success whereas he is already
50 years old. By transposing the action in a modern factory, the director Calixto Bieito underlines with intelligence the crushing of the characters without sacrificing anything to the tension of the opera.
