CHRISTOPH WILLIBALD GLUCK
Iphigénie en Tauride
2h without interval
Five years after the triumph of Iphigenia in Aulis, Christoph Willibald Gluck once again turns his attention to this mythological character. This time, the young girl is not promised a sacrifice but must consider the sacrifice of her brother Orestes. This dilemma is sublimated by the composer into a “tragedy set to music” in line with his reform of opera. His score finds a director worthy of it in the person of Robert Carsen, who signs images of great beauty. A jewel for the mezzo-soprano Karine Deshayes who plays the title role for the first time.
