The conductor Sigvards Kļava and accentus got along so well when working on their first Poulenc / Rachmaninov concert together, that the experience had to be renewed. The great Latvian choral conductor now pays homage to the splendours of Russian and Nordic choral music of the XXth century – music inspired by the orthodox liturgy. The orthodox church having forbidden any instruments during celebrations, all of these piece – even if secular – are sung a cappella. Conveying the fragility of human life or calling to light, all are testimonies of troubling beauty. The programme is completed by Einojuhani Rautavaara’s impressive Première Elégie (first Elegy) based on a text by Rainer Maria Rilke, and by Message de la mésange, a piece by contemporary composer Pēteris Vasks.
