Gioacchino Rossini
The Barber of Seville
All eyes are on Figaro, Almaviva, Rosina and the gloomy elders! Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau projects the characters of Rossini’s opera into 18th century Spain, “acknowledging, initially at least, various conventions of Classical music”, if only to subsequently cut loose. The stage production bubbles with malice and youth, drawing on Goya for the imagery and John Galliano for the costumes, and stars the very young, highly talented singers Xabier Anduaga, Joshua Hopkins and Lea Desandre.
