accentus amplifies German operatic Romanticism with four works by Robert Schumann staged theatrically for the first time. Antonin Baudry grasps these vocal works that play out against a backdrop of unsettling castles, curses and sacrificed lovers to ask the question “What can music do faced with the forces at play in the world? What can music achieve against Kings?” A question of burning relevance for which accentus and Insula orchestra are the most moving interpreters.
