A Hymn to the Virgin Chorale after an old French carol Sacred and profane
In this fully a cappella performance, accentus explores the richness of vocal polyphony of the 20th century. Conducted by Stephen Layton, the choir will perform Francis Poulenc’s Quatre petites prières de Saint François d’Assise, a pared-down, expressive and intense score for male voices, alongside pieces by Benjamin Britten of great rhythmical virtuosity, and little-known pieces by Pierre Villette, a Norman composer who wrote colourful and luminous music.
