Christophe Grapperon and accentus pursue their exploration of the lesser known jewels of the 19th century French repertory. While Camille Saint-Saëns and Reynaldo Hahn left their imprint on French musical life, others were left in the shadow: this is the case of Clémence de Grandval whose melodies, according to Saint-Saëns with whom she studied composition, “would surely have been famous had their author not made the irremediable mistake, in the eyes of some, of being a woman”.
