le jeune chœur de paris



Founded by Laurence Equilbey, le département supérieur pour jeunes chanteurs l le jeune choeur de paris of the Paris Regional Conservatory, is a learning centre for aspiring vocal artists. It provides training to 50 students and is based around 15 distinct disciplines (vocal technique, musical training, the study of styles, theatre, chamber music, choir, dance...) with the help of 30 teachers.

le jeune choeur de paris is conducted by both Laurence Equilbey and Geoffroy Jourdain as a musical ensemble and thus has inscribed in its repertoire some very important a cappella pieces and also participates in contemporary creations (orders from Franck Krawczyk, Oscar Strasnoy Georgia Spiropoulos, Marco-Antonio Perez-Ramirez, Philippe Hurel, Bruno Mantovani….). The choir also works with The Ensemble orchestral de Paris, The Ensemble Intercontemporain, The Orchestre de Paris and The Freiburger Barackorchester. The choir has notably been conducted by Pierre Boulez and René Jacobs. In 2007/2008, in cooperation with The Péniche Opéra, le jeune choeur de paris did a rendition of La Forêt bleue by Louis Aubert in a stage-setting by Mireille Larroche.

Masterclasses are regularly organized. The allow students to complete their training by other technical and artistic sources, thanks to the competitive exam of professors and great interpreters : Christine Schweitzer, Laurent Naouri, Pierre Mervant, Nadine Denize, Malcolm King, Malcolm Walker, etc.

le jeune choeur de paris also created and recorded with Les Cris de Paris, works written for a cappella choirs by Thierry Machuel, seen under Label Inconnu/Naïve under the title of Psalm.

In 2008/2009, le jeune choeur de paris performed, at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, Mahler’s Third Symphony along with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, conducted by Ivan Fischer, Passagio of Luciano Berio, and with the Ensemble Intercontemporain and Cappella Amsterdam, conducted by Susanna Mälkki at the Cité de la musique and Lelio from Hector Berlioz along with the Orchestre des Champs Elysées, conducted by Philippe Herreweghe. He equally interpreted a new work by Thierry Lancino, which was created at the Opéra Comique in March of 2009 at the heart of a programme dedicated to Herbert Howells and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The learning centre for aspiring vocal artists, department of the conservatory of cultural Influence of the region of Paris, is funded by the Mairie of Paris. le jeune choeur de paris benefits from the support of the Ministry of Culture and Communications (Drac Ile-de-France).

In 2008, the choir was the recipient of the Liliane Bettencourt Award for choir singing.

le jeune choeur de paris is equipped with electric tuners, “e-tuner”, thanks to the support from the Orange Foundation.
