THE POSTILION FROM LONJUMEAU - Accentus English version

THE POSTILION FROM LONJUMEAU

Program

Adolphe Adam
The Postilion from Lonjumeau

Preposterous! There is no better word to describe the deliciously improbable tale of Adolphe Adam’s opera in which a postilion abandons his spouse on their wedding night to start a career as a singer and, ten years later, asks for the hand of the wife he has failed to recognise. Outrageous perhaps, but not enough to prevent the work from being an 1836 box-office hit. Since neglected, it gets a new lease of life in the playful hands of Sébastien Rouland in this fanciful production by Michel Fau.
