THE BLOODY NUN - Accentus English version

THE BLOODY NUN

Program

Charles Gounod

La Nonne sanglante

A castle in Bohemia in the 11th century. The ghost of a nun. Feuding families and thwarted love provide the substance for Charles Gounod’s Gothic opera. Though initial performances at the Paris Opera in 1854 were a runaway success, the devilish tale was not to the taste of the new director who promptly curtailed its run. accentus and Insula orchestra revive Gounod’s second opera, in which he displays all his talents as orchestrator and symphonist that would subsequently go into the writing of Faust. Laurence Equilbey and theatre director David Bobée offer a psychoanalytical take on a frenzied opera.
