THE BLACK DOMINO - Accentus English version

THE BLACK DOMINO

Program

Daniel-François-Esprit Auber
Le Domino noir

Every year, a young girl named Angèle steals out of the convent to make her way to a masquerade ball under the pseudonym “Black domino”. Horace falls in love with her, but only after a complex plot line has unwound and the masks have fallen are the two lovers able to unite. Auber wrote music to a libretto by Scribe that is light and bright, Berlioz describing it as “lively and amusing, one of his prettiest scores”. With Anne-Catherine Gillet and Cyrille Dubois in the lead roles, we can be sure that the fresh performance will give a new lease of life to an opera that was a smash hit in the 19th century.
