Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Maurerische Trauermusik
Requiem
Poignant? Sublime? Divine? Even the ultimate superlatives scarcely do justice to Mozart’s Requiem, the musical Everest. The sheer uniqueness of the score has spawned copious fantasizing about the circumstances in which it was composed. In this programme, accentus attempts to show Mozart’s true face, also that of his masonic allegiance. Further testimony to this comes in the form of his Mauererische Trauermusik, a funereal piece written in memory of two brothers of Mozart’s lodge. This profane work, like his sacred music, reveals one of the composer’s trademark qualities: his humanity.
