GREAT LITURGY - Accentus English version

GREAT LITURGY

Program

Francis Poulenc
Mass in G
Sergueï Rachmaninoff
Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom (extracts)

accentus galvanises two sacred works that are milestones in the a cappella repertory. Completed in 1937, the Mass in G Major marks the return of Francis Poulenc to the Catholic faith. Immediately striking is his bold treatment of tonality, while Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Liturgy of Saint John-Chrysostom flourishes in a modern vein while paying a tribute to traditional Russian Orthodox song. Two potent works, conducted by one of Europe’s leading choirmasters, Sigvards Kļava.
